Sweet as Audrey

During Sunday's night red carpet coverage something on TV caught my eye, and it wasn't Lupita Nyong'o's stunning red carpet look. A chocolate commercial starring my cinematic hero: Audrey Hepburn. Being gone for more than 20 years you can imagine my shock watching Audrey working her magic along the Mediterranean coast line. Thanks to the powers of computer generated images, and two identical models who bear a strong resemblance to Ms. Hepburn, she can live again. Utterly charming, adorable, and has me yearning for a polka dot shirtdress, I have fallen in love with Audrey all over again.

The commercial:

Masion Jules

Have you guys seen this new collection at Macy's called Maison Jules? I just discovered it last week, and my inner French girl is jumping for joy over their pieces. Inspired by Parisian street style, you've got subtle patterns, muted colors mixed with bright pops of pinks and oranges, on relaxed hems and fits.

I mean how much do I want to be this little French brunette at the sidewalk cafe? Just sipping coffee, checking my phone, while I sit adorably in my wedge oxfords, plum skinnies, and quirky sweater with oversized glasses stitched on it?

I must have tried on a dozen items, and really loved how they've mixed cute with casual; which is my style to a tee. You can look really pulled together for just errands or perfectly styled for casual date night.
The pieces are reasonably priced, and Macy's typically has some sort of sale going on, so you could really find some deals. There are several things I'm eyeing right now, that navy blazer with the ruffle especially, and you can bet I'll be saving my Euros to get a few pieces for Spring.

Birchwood House

Just a little peek into my house...
We moved into this converted cape cod with all sorts of charm in late sumer of 2013. Slowly but surely I've been repainting, styling, (and then re-styling) and purchasing items for our little house ever since. I'm hoping to kick the projects that have been sitting on my "to-do" list into high gear this Spring and then I can share more before and after pictures with you.

The dining room. Hoping to swap out the table and chairs for something better very soon!

My collection of vintage apothecary items sit on a shelf in the downstairs bathroom.

Small corner in the living room. My prized decoupage trophy heads over look my brass trunk and chartreuse Jonathan Adler lamp.

Never a Shortage

My closet drowns in grays and navys; in the best possible way that is.

Muller Cuteness

Have you guys seen these super cute Muller yogurt commercials? I am totally digging the vision of the stylists behind this work. I think they've captured the 20-30 age bracket of millennial woman perfectly. She's got the quirky, Zooey Deschanel look about her; with the blunt cut bangs, cat eye makeup paired with a bright lip, thin gold rings, and an eclectic style of dress. (It also makes me really want to try their yogurt; advertising success!) And did I mention she wears glitter heeled shoes, a parrot skirt I recognized from H&M, runs late for work, and has romantic candle-lit picnics on the dock with her boyfriend?! I mean, she's just like me!

PS I'm back!

Ferris Bueller Style

It's no secret that I have much love for the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I watched it on an outdoor screen this past summer, you know like one of those blow up screens, but tonight I am seeing it at my favorite movie house: The Kentucky Theatre. Besides totally in love with the Ferris Bueller persona, there's no arguing his fab sense of style either. If you wanna rock the FBDO look you're going to need three key items. The perfect motorcycle jacket; the more tones the better. A classic white tee; to compliment your vast vest collection. And if you're going to spend the day roaming the streets of Chicago than you need a sturdy pair of oxfords.

I am so pumped to be seeing this tonight, if you're in the Lexington area the show starts at 7:15pm!

Television Fashion

I am a bit of a TV fanatic. Series, sitcoms, reality TV; I've been known to watch them all. The only thing that gets me excited about summer coming to an end is knowing new Fall shows will be starting. So it's no surprise that I take some of my fashion cues from my favorite television characters. Here's whose closets I'd like to be raiding.

Blair Waldorf-Gossip Girl. Blair is girlie, preppy, and her flair for the theatrics lead her outfits a little costumey at times too (which I love). Blair drips Upper East Side chicness in every outfit she wears. Pattern mixing, fun tights, she never met a winter coat she didn't like, and I am green with envy that she can pull off so many hats. She inspires me to get out of my jeans routine and embrace my girlie side with skirts and dresses, no matter what the temperature. Blair, take me under you wing as a minion in training and let me raid your closet!

Jess-New Girl. The bangs, the eyelashes, the voice...I have a total girl crush on Zooey Deschanel. I love Jess' sense of style on this show. Her clothes really speak to her personality: she's not afraid to be exactly who she is and to have fun with life, and her clothes. Bright pops of color, a shoe collection full of flats, fun pattern mixing, and Jess can never wear too many polka dots! Jess and I could totally be roomies, just as long as I can borrow her clothes.

Emma Pillsbury-Glee. "A brooch for every outfit, a chain for every cardigan," is the motto I'd like to think Emma follows when she dresses herself every morning. Longer hem lines and higher collars keep Emma's girly looks more conservative than Blair or Jess, but no less coveted. Even though the she typically keeps to the same shape and silhouette of her outfits she's not afraid to color block or go head to toe monochromatic. I love everything about her Kate Spade-Anthropologie mix of bright colors, vintage prints, florals, and fun shoes. If I were a student of McKinley High School I would totally be looking towards Ms. Pillsbury as my fashion mentor.

Whose closet would you raid?

I'm in love with...

...a piece of furniture. It's true. One look, and I knew that this mid century dress in mint green was destined to be my soul mate. An expensive price tag and shipping costs might keep us apart, but if it's meant to be we will find a way to be together. Right next to my bed; as the perfect nightstand/extra storage facility.

Falling in love with this dresser has re energized me to get my decorating butt in gear, and get to work on decorating my house again. Remember when I was only thinking in mood boards? Remember the dresser I planned to refurbish? Gracious where does the time go? I'm going to blame daylight savings time, and I the fact I've been watching too many old episodes of Secrets from a Stylist, and feeling intimidated by Emily's awesome skills.

So dresser, love of my life, thank you for getting me inspired.

Summer in the Fall

While we in the Northern hemisphere are celebrating the beginning of fall and winter, those down under are saying hello to spring and summer. New Zealand designer Katie-Maree Cole's soft colors and feminine silhouettes for her 2012 collection have me wanting to skip ahead a few months on the calendar! Peter Pan collars, bright orange, and leopard prints? Sign me up!

How I Miss You

There are only a handful of things I miss from Indianapolis, my old city of residence. Don't confuse that with people though. There are many, many friends I think about and miss daily (and for those friends reading this, I want to come for a visit soon). But besides Midland Antiques and Cafe Patachou, the one thing I miss the most is Anthropologie. I realize every girl loves her Anthro, but when a new season comes around I find myself missing all the new and unique things that come through their doors. And Fall is hitting me hard! Look at all these beautiful outfits they've put together. All I can think about is structured jackets, boxy sweaters, patterned skirts, and funky shoes. Oh the agony!

These are some of my favorites from their newest outfitting section: "In Between Day"

I think at least one of these pieces will have to find its way into my closet before October hits; what do you guys think?
