Birchwood House

Just a little peek into my house...
We moved into this converted cape cod with all sorts of charm in late sumer of 2013. Slowly but surely I've been repainting, styling, (and then re-styling) and purchasing items for our little house ever since. I'm hoping to kick the projects that have been sitting on my "to-do" list into high gear this Spring and then I can share more before and after pictures with you.

The dining room. Hoping to swap out the table and chairs for something better very soon!

My collection of vintage apothecary items sit on a shelf in the downstairs bathroom.

Small corner in the living room. My prized decoupage trophy heads over look my brass trunk and chartreuse Jonathan Adler lamp.

H&M Home

I am slowly finding myself accumulating a pile of toss pillows. Soon you might not be able to sit on my sofa or see the duvet on my bed. Lucky for me I have two of each in my house so that justifies me buying just a few more right??? And these pillows from H&M Home, which you can now buy online (finally!), look like the perfection addition to my collection.

The Mindy Project Apartment

Are you guys watching The Mindy Project? If you aren't, then you're in luck. It comes on tonight: 9:30pm EST on Fox. It's like the come to life version of her blog from back in the day, "Things I've Bought that I Love," and the funny parts of her character Kelly from The Office. It's hilarious, and if you're a girlie girl, then you will love all parts of her character and dynamic of this show. But more importantly than loving the fashion choices she makes you will LOVE the apartment she lives in. I mean check out that dining room above! I'm totally digging the mixing of pattern, texture and colors all pulled together seamlessly into her open floor plan. I would die for those yellow captain's chairs or blue tufted seating bench.

I pulled together my own dining room inspiration board to mimic Mindy's apartment. What do you think, am I close?

bookends, bench, chandelier, curtainstable, prints, carved buffet, white buffet, yellow chair

A Banner Headboard

I am totally on board with all the streamer banners used for weddings, photo backgrounds, and party decor. I think it's a great way to pull your whole color story together for an event into one cute decor piece. After seeing a simple picture on sweet sweet life of bunting hung over a bed, and easy to follow instructions on the lovely cupboard for using fabric, my project was set in motion. The colors were pulled from my Anthropologie Glasswing duvet. You can see the tops of the shams peeking into the last picture. I still need to get an actual insert for my duvet otherwise I would have photographed the whole bed. My only worry is that it'll be too matchy-matchy with all the same colors together in one small space, but we shall see. If it's a bust then it's back to square one on the headboard idea but I have a good secondary home for the banner to live just in case.

Dreaming of Headboards

My bed is in need of some serious TLC. In my small bedroom there really isn't any room for a traditional headboard. But that doesn't mean this little apple needs to be sleeping under a blank wall. I've been collecting some ideas to try out that won't add any length to it's existing space or hurt my wallet. So until I have the room and the money for my dream headboard, three words: upholstered, velvet, grey, I think one of these looks is a great substitution. What is your favorite non-traditional headboard look?

Everyone's favorite painting trend: chalkboard! Either in the shape of a headboard or a simple rectangle shape

A variation on the bunting theme. I could use vintage images or colorful paper to fit my bedroom's color scheme

Loving me...

Yesterday, I fell in love. About 3 o'clock yesterday it hit me. I completely feel in love with the idea of having a metal magazine rack. I can't explain it, or rationalize it, but it's what I feel in my heart. I am totally digging the more mid-century design. I think my favorite is the top one. It's something that looks like it could stand alone as an art piece empty or when showing off my latest reads. What do you guys think, anyone else want to get in on my love fest?
