Here's another example of an unexpected store that has several pieces jumping onto my wish list: Express! They've just rolled out their spring collection and I was surrounded by bright colors the moment I walked through their doors. Not only am I tempted by these green pants, raspberry pencil skirt, and purple and teal wedges, but each of these pieces comes in a variety of colors too. How's a girl to choose?

If you were like me and wrote Express off as a shopping destination of your past, give them a second chance this season and we'll shake these winter blues yet!

Not since this have I laughed so much at a Super Bowl commercial. This was a purposefully leaked ad that will run on Sunday during the big game but it has me smiling from ear to ear right now.
If you've ever talked movies with me, or sent me an email, you know I have a love for Mr. Ferris Bueller and his amazing day off. Since I was 13 my non-blog email address has had the word Ferris in it. I can't seem to let it go! I can quote the movie line for line, I can tell you fun facts about the filming of the movie, I've owned it on VHS, DVD, and BluRay, and it is my number one, all time favorite movie.
No truer words were spoken: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it."

Friday Flick Picks

I bet you guys thought I had stopped seeing movies seeing as I haven't had a Flick Picks post in 2 weeks! In addition to the three movies above, I also re-watched some old and new favorites too: Breakfast at Tiffany's, Moneyball, and Midnight in Paris. And I'm sad to report that the old movies far out shined the ones I've never seen. Well that's not entirely fair; Jackie Brown was pretty entertaining. Tinker Tailor bored me to tears; I paid attention to the entire movie and still don't know what it was about! Jane Eyre didn't do much for me either. Jackie Brown is an excellent crime drama executed in perfect Tarantino style. If you haven't seen it I really suggest you give it a watch you'll be surprised.

I have to say right now in the movie world is my favorite time. We are in the thick of award season. Globes are behind us to set the tone for the trophies, Oscar nominations are out, and SAGs are this weekend. Now is the time to play catch up on all the movies that are getting some buzz and I am so excited that The Artist has come to Lexington and I have plans to see it tonight!

Pinterest Moves Me

A friend of mine recently shared some personal and family issues that she's going through, and they are really taking a toll on her emotions. She said that it was hard for her to stay positive right now and she wished she had more things making her happy. And my serious suggestion to her to improve her mood was to join Pinterest. I can literally be having a boring, bad, uninspiring day, and five minutes on Pinterest can totally turn my day around. Maybe I'm too much like Scarlett O'Hara when it comes to dealing with a problem; "I can't think about that right now; I'll think about that tomorrow," but escaping to a world of pretty images and quotes makes me forget about life's problems for a little while.

And what makes Pinterest even better is knowing the man behind it all, Ben Silbermann, is as inspiring and wonderful as the site itself. Many of my blogs I follow have returned from Alt Design Summit and besides the awesome parties, friends, and pictures they took, everyone can't stop talking about the keynote speaker: Ben Silbermann. Everyone has said the words he spoke really motivated and moved the audience. I wasn't present for his speech, but the quotes and bullet points other bloggers have taken away from him and shared on their blogs have motivated me too. To be moved by someone who was over a 1,000 miles away is a mark of a very inspiring and talented person!

Conde Nast Travler via Design Crush

I was totally green with envy in the weeks leading up to Alt Design Summit and during this past weekend when everyone seemed to be there. But I am determined to make my way there next year! I'm not the best saver in the world but I am starting an Alt piggy bank and I will be there next January. I even have one of my roomies picked out, and we will dance Johnny and Baby style all night long!

Yowza! Winged eye liner and auburn tresses have been on my mind lately. Perhaps I'm trying to resemble a 40's Hollywood starlet. I got my hair trimmed the other day hoping to give my hair and overall look a little umpf, but I wish I had gone with a hair color change instead of chopping just a few inches off. Hair cutters remorse I suppose? I also wish I had an excuse (and could master the execution!) to sport the heavy winged eyeliner every day. Adele, Christina Hendricks, I envy you today.

Lex Local: Shorty's Urban Market

Today is the start of a new series here on little yellow apple entitled Lex Local. A place to highlight and brag about some really awesome places in my hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. Even though Lexington is your typical traditional small city we do have some neat places tucked away in our fair town.

Lex Local Spot: Shorty's Urban Market
Location: 163 W. Short Street
What is it? A grocery, deli, wine store, and street cafe all in one!
What makes Shorty's so cool is it reminds me of all the great little groceries and bodegas in New York City. With it's deli counter, produce, organic products, breads, cheese, and wines on display it feels like Lexington is a fancy cosmopolitan city. (we're fancy y'all!) The set up in this store is really original too. The space that Shorty's inhabits, I believe, was once an old bank. The giant circular vault door and and enclosed area where their refrigerated items are kept is kind of give away. The staff is super friendly and how nice and neat all their displays are I could wander around for hours. From coffee and pastries in the morning to paninis and sandwiches in the afternoon Shorty's has a great menu of yummy treats to offer when your tummy starts rumbling. And in the warmer months Shorty's is the perfect spot to sip a fruit smoothie and people watch from the cafe tables out front.

Yesterday, I fell in love. About 3 o'clock yesterday it hit me. I completely feel in love with the idea of having a metal magazine rack. I can't explain it, or rationalize it, but it's what I feel in my heart. I am totally digging the more mid-century design. I think my favorite is the top one. It's something that looks like it could stand alone as an art piece empty or when showing off my latest reads. What do you guys think, anyone else want to get in on my love fest?

I Tumble for Seasons

Even though I'm literally addicted to checking Pinterest, (seriously, someone I know should be making an intervention banner) I still love checking in on my favorite tumblr sites too. One particular site I love to scroll through is one titled "Winter." The site's author, Grace, fills her page with snowy sunsets, mittens curled around marshmallow filled coco mugs, and girls in fair isle sweaters. As much as I hate the cold weather, her site makes the bitter season a little cozier. And the good news is the popularity of her site has initiated a start of tumblr sites in the renaming seasons. So when I'm in the middle of a 20 degree day I can escape away to tropical beaches, gardens as far as the eye can see, or pumpkin patches. If you're in need of endless amounts of eye candy, check out Grace's sites.

Love for Old Navy

I am seriously in love with Old Navy's newest arrivals in their store right now. I am definitely an equal opportunist when it comes to the labels inside my clothes. If I like something I don't care what store it came from. So it comes as no surprise to me that I can constantly find good classic staples or the occasional inexpensive trendy items at Old Navy. Like that chambray shirt dress (only $19!) that would look amazing with a chunky cardigan, fun colored tights and wedge boots. Or the must have striped boat neck tee paired with navy trousers with the fun white piping. I would be excited to have all of those pieces in my closet right now. You may have written this big chain retailer off as a place to find fashionable pieces, just look past their wacky mannequins, but give it a second look and you might be pleasantly surprised!

What do you do when you get out of bed in the morning and have no idea what to wear? My solution to this problem is to scroll through my most recent outfitting pins on Pinterest. Is everyone else nodding their head in agreement? I noticed that I've been pinning a lot of outfits of girls in relaxed jeans with super cute heels to give the look some polish. So this is my attmpt to initate her and her. This is a pretty basic look: black top, heels and a lepoard print accessory. I think need more heels in my closet to pull together more unique looks. Like I need an excuse to go shopping!

I just realized that Jonathan Adler does calendars. Is there anything that man can't do? Created in his happy chic design his calendar has me dreaming of summer vacation plans. And I love the use of bold colors and retro images. I feel like I should wear my chicest maillot, Jackie O sunglasses, red lipstick, and do some sunbathing in the South of France. Happy dreaming!

It's Unseasonable!

It felt like Spring had come early to the Bluegrass this weekend. Friday and Saturday were above 60 degrees! It had me happily out and about town driving with my windows down, music turned up, and rocking my sunnies like I was in the middle of June. The 10 day forecast says the warm temperatures will be short lived but this mini preview has me thinking winter will be over before I know it!

P.S. This skirt and sneak peeks of Spring must go together because I saw one of my favorite fashion bloggers recently rocking this skirt too! What would we do without Anthro?!

Friday Flick Picks

It was really hard to pick just one movie this week so I'm going to suggest three! And keeping in the spirit of ranking movies this week, I'll go in the order of how much I liked them. First up: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This movie is seriously sticking with me after the first watch. Rooney Mara blew me away in the portrayal of her character, Lisbeth. And despite the racy parts of this movie, she seriously needs to be considered for an Oscar. I was entertained and captivated for over 2 hours. Definitely go see this movie.

Next up: Young Adult. I am not a Charlize Theron fan but she really impressed me with this movie. She plays this character spot on. There are moments in this movie that make you cringe knowing how messed up someone would have to be to act like she does. And for someone like me who still has those teenage moments, seeing myself in some of those moments made me laugh.

Last, but certainly not least, was Win Win. There was such a humanistic way about this movie that I loved. The characters were rich and wonderful; every single actor brought their A game to this film. It was a real life funny movie if that makes any sense. Super touching; I really recommend this one too.

So there you have it, apples. To me, it is a sign of a good movie watching week when I have too many movies to pick from. I have sat through too many crappy movies lately and these three were a breath of fresh air.

Top Movies of 2011

When one year comes to an end my favorite thing is compiling all the movies I saw during the year.

Here are the rules:
* the list can only include movies I saw in theatres
* I can only include movies that come out in 2011 and that I watched between 1/1/11 and 12/31/11
* use comingsoon.net as a resource to compile the list of all the movies I saw (this is a flexible rule but I've always used their site to make my list)

This method does leave room for a black hole of movies. Usually victims of the hole are ones that come out late in 2011 and I don't get around to seeing until 2012. Unfortunately, I can't include them in the next year's list either. But this is the way I've always done the list and I'm a creature of habit.

I only saw 21 movies in theatres this year so coming up with the top third of the crop seemed like the best idea. For me, it wasn't the greatest year in cinema. My top two are really the only ones I could see myself watching over and over again. And don't hate on Harold and Kumar sliding into spot #7; any film with NPH automatically gets my vote!

2012, it's finally here! I can't wait to see what this year has in store for me. I feel like I accomplished and succeeded on most of my resolutions from last year, so it makes me confident about setting new ones for this year.

Here are just a few things I want to work on: dedicating specific time to work on my blog every day, give the blog a mini makeover, get better at saving money, and discover things that make me truly happy.

...a piece of furniture. It's true. One look, and I knew that this mid century dress in mint green was destined to be my soul mate. An expensive price tag and shipping costs might keep us apart, but if it's meant to be we will find a way to be together. Right next to my bed; as the perfect nightstand/extra storage facility.

Falling in love with this dresser has re energized me to get my decorating butt in gear, and get to work on decorating my house again. Remember when I was only thinking in mood boards? Remember the dresser I planned to refurbish? Gracious where does the time go? I'm going to blame daylight savings time, and I the fact I've been watching too many old episodes of Secrets from a Stylist, and feeling intimidated by Emily's awesome skills.

So dresser, love of my life, thank you for getting me inspired.

Cozy Holidays

Layers, fuzzy sweaters, and chunky knits helped keep me warm and cozy while I celebrated the holidays this weekend. It was so nice to have a lazy day with my family, watching A Christmas Story about 10 times, and staying in our PJ's all day. I hope all of you had a nice Christmas with your family and friends too. I guess it's time to start putting away the tree and lights and think about the new year that's right around the corner!

Leslie Knope

Leslie Knope is my motivator. If you want to see someone who lets nothing stand in her way, a creative solution for every problem, full of energy, and a monumental passion for doing what she loves, then you need to be watching Parks and Recreation on Thursday nights. I watched this past Thursday's episode Sunday night and I can't stop thinking about it.

If you've seen the show at least once, you know the one thing Leslie is most passionate about is the city she lives in: Pawnee. Although, a close second is her friends and her dream of becoming the President. From petition signings to planning a Harvest Festival no task is too small for her to get excited about. If it gets her one step closer to her goal then she is on board 110%. Nothing gets in her way.

I guess that's why I can't stop thinking about Leslie Knope. I am in awe of her determination. I need her drive to inspire and motivate me right now. I seem to be stuck in this constant thought process of, "what am I doing with my life, where am I going, what is my focus?" After replaying more recent episodes of the show in my head, I'm trying to push the overwhelming feeling of whining and depression down, and realize results don't come from that. They come from pushing forward and not letting anything get you down. If Leslie can overcome the odds and find a way to run for City Council then I can keep my head high and find what works for me too. The solution is out there. If I take the time to brainstorm, talk with others, and follow what's in my heart I'll come out on top.

I still don't know what I want to do or where I'm going, but I have a better glimmer of hope right now; thanks to Leslie Knope.

Friday Flick Picks

This has been a good movie watching week for me! And honestly, I think I may be underselling myself because I think I managed to squeeze in a fifth movie somewhere too but I can't remember! Oh wait it just came to me!

So take that weeks with only one movie; I am on fire! Again, lots of variety this week and mostly giving our Netflix's account a workout with 3 out of the 5 coming from our queue. My pick this week is The Devil's Double. Dominic Cooper needs some serious Oscar buzz for his performances in this movie. The movie plot didn't blow me away, but he really made the movie watchable. Usually an actor playing two different roles in a movie comes off as laughable and too obvious but he really made it seem like two different people in a very subtle way.

The rest of the movies this week were either just okay or a total pass (National Lampoon excluded). With SAG and Globe nominations out, and Oscars just around the corner I feel a stream of "obligated" movie watching in my future to be fully prepared for my ballots.

At Home for Christmas

I love growing my collection of vintage oranaments every year

Don't even try to test my memorization of "Twas the Night Before Christmas." I have almost 30 copies in my collection. Some are the traditional version, others with a funny twist; like my Zombie Night Before Christmas I got last year.

Mine and Aaron's stocking, surprisngly, from Pottery Barn Kids. I love the mix of the gingham and velvet

This year I added the paper chain garland around the tree and really like how it turned out. Every year I think I'll do a sophisticated and styled "theme" tree, but the thought of not putting my Hallmark or handmade ornaments on the tree is like not seeing old friends for the holidays.

Friday Flick Picks

If I could wish you guys to have one thought about my Friday Flick Picks posts it would be, "Sarah will watch anything, won't she?"

New, old, stupid, obscure. Just a few words to summarize this week's movies. The Descendants was just good, not great. The acting held together well; I think Clooney and Shailene Woodley will get nominations out of it. But for me, the highs and lows were too all over the place. I couldn't justify where the characters were coming from. And side note: Matthew Lillard is still alive and has a bit part in this movie!

Dinner for Schmucks was totally ridiculous, and not in a good way. How can two actors I find super funny in tons of other stuff fail so horribly in this movie? The best parts for me was the opening credits and all the parts with the taxidermy mice. (I know that sounds weird, but you'll know what I mean if you watch the movie).

If you're in the mood for a holiday flick than queue up Home Alone. If you're looking for something a little bit different I say check out Attack the Block. It's a small indie sci-fi flick from the UK that came out earlier this year. A gang of South London kids fight off an alien attack on their block. It sounds totally campy and silly but it comes off pretty well. I was entertained by it 10 times more than any of the other movies I saw this week (Home Alone excluded).

Shellac Nails

I have to tell you guys about the most amazing manicure that is happening on my nails right now. Over Thanksgiving I got to catch up with one of my dearest friends; and after we got all the giggling and catching up out of our system I started raving about how amazing her nails looked. They were super shiny and not a chip in sight. A shellac nail manicure was her secret!

Seriously this process is amazing. The top most picture was taken the day I got them done and the lower picture was taken today, 7 days after the first. Now I realize most regular manicures will last you a good week, but in my case it doesn't. I must be too rough on them. But I also know if I get one little chip or scratch one one, there's no hope in the rest of them lasting. With shellac nails I've done everything I normally do with my hands and I there's not a scratch or chip in sight. And I should be able to get another week out of this manicure too! Hello miracle!

Do you need this miracle in your life too? Go to CND's website and use their locate link to find a salon in your city. If a small city like Lexington can have at least 8 salons in my zip code, I know your city should have at least one too. CND is the only company supplying colors for the shellac nail process (but I hear OPI is coming out with a line too) so you can check out their selection of colors here. I'm wearing Dark Ruby. This process is much healthier, cheaper, and quicker than a gel manicure. And in my opinion they have better color selection for shellac nails. For the holidays with baking, wrapping, and parties in your future you can't beat the low upkeep.

#6 Zooey Deschanel's voice can do no wrong. I adore her and M. Ward's folksie take on Christmas songs. They're so catchy and sweet. And I love her outfit on the cover!

#4 I love Brian Setzer's rockabilly take on some holiday classics. You've got to listen to Cactus Christmas and the The Nutcracker Suite medley

#3 Who doesn't own this album? I had this on cassette tape when I was a kid and loved it so much had to have the CD version of it later. This is an ultimate classic

#2 My all time favorite Christmas song is Nat's version of "The Christmas Song." Oh how I love this tune. The rest of this album is just as wonderful

#1 Picking my favorite for this countdown was easy. I could listen to these tracks over and over again and never tire or get annoyed by Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo's voices. There is something so sweet, childlike, and wholesome about this album. I guess because I grew up with The Muppets and it holds a special place in my heart. It just doesn't seem like Christmas without hearing the whole gang sing The Twelve Days of Christmas. (Beaker's day 9 gets me every time!)

Knee Sock Love

If I had to pick a trend that I loved the most right now, I would have to say knee socks. I realize for the past two or three seasons girls have been rocking the socks peaking out of boots and over the knees. I can't get enough of them! Ever since I was a little girl and my mother would put me in those thick white wool ones for church (that always found their way bunched up around my ankles) I have been dying for them to come back in style. And wouldn't you know the first pair I bought were a pair of cream cable ones! I guess some things never change. For this weekend our weather was mildly warm and sunny so I could get away with just my knee socks to help keep me warm. That's the thing about Kentucky weather one minute sunny and warm the next rain and cold.

Friday Flick Picks

Sigh, my multiple movie streak could only last for a little bit I guess.

I gave Gangs of New York a second viewing this past Monday. For some reason I always think this movie is The Departed. Every time I see it coming on TV or on Netflix instant I think, "ooo The Departed is on!" And then my heart sinks when I realize that it's really Gangs of NY. Even though I can clearly read the title of the movie. And, when this movie was queuing up I thought Departed! My brain works in crazy ways sometimes. To put it simply my review of this movie is: it's no Departed. But in seriousness I remembered liking this movie a lot more in the theater 3 years ago and after a second viewing I wasn't feeling it. If you're just in the mood for a Scorsese/DiCaprio combo might I suggest something better? Such as The Departed or Shutter Island; you'll be much happier.

Fresh Fabric

Do you guys know about Heather Bailey? If you don't, she is this super creative Jane of all trades and crafter extraordinaire. She designs fabrics, paper supplies, stationary, and picnic-ware. And not only does she create and design all these supplies, she comes up with amazing sewing tutorials to use her projects as well. Her shop recently sent out a newsletter introducing her newest line of fabrics: Garden District. What I love most about Heather's products is the color! They're somehow vibrant and soft at the same time. She taps into the ultimate "girl" colors and patterns of florals in bubblegum pinks, fuchsias, and raspberries, really well. If I had my way, it would pastels everywhere. But for something less frou frou she has an equal variety of cool blues, greens, browns and reds in stripes, dots, and geometric shapes, too.

Check out her blog and shop and you'll instantly want to make a quilt, reupholster a chair, or make one of her famous pincushions!

My mother has enforced a strict no listening to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving rule in our household. Usually I'm a good daughter and abide by her rules but this year I just couldn't wait. One of our local radio stations started playing 24/7 Christmas music two weeks before Thanksgiving and I couldn't help but listen in from time to time. So now that it's acceptable to listen to the holiday tunes without shame I'm breaking out my Christmas CD collection and listening to them all the time. So to give you a break from hearing Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree for the 100th time here's a peek at my top 10 favorite Christmas albums for something different.

#10 I had this album as a tape when I was a little kid and wore. it. out! Listening to their high pitched little voices makes me think about Christmas as a little kid

#9 A Charlie Brown Christmas is probably one of my favorite holiday special, and when I hear Christmas Time is Here I can't help thinking of snowflakes falling.

#8 I'm totally in love Kristin Chenoweth's voice. She's got a lot of non-traditional Christmas songs on this album which is a nice change

#7 Michael Buble, his voice is was made to sing Christmas carols.

#6 I love the jazzy feel of HCJ's Christmas album. My mom would listen to this CD constantly when she first bought it. Listening to it makes me think of her and how she always makes our Christmases special

Friday Flick Picks

I hope everyone reading this blog post are at home, happily surrounded by friends or family, with leftovers in your fridge, and thoughts of Christmas on your mind. I was totally on my game this week as far as movies go this week too! And not just old movies either; I got out to the theatre once and conveniently ordered one on OnDemand.

Let me talk a little bit about the new movies I saw: Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Both were let downs for me. Perhaps I'm asking too much out of artsy films but this movie viewer needs a little meat to her stories! For me, you can't just throw me into the middle of the plot and not provide any explanation of how the characters got there, where they're going, or why they are the way they are. It feels too unfulfilling for me. I feel so detached from the characters and the story I just spent 2 hours involved in. Both of these movies gave me that feeling this week. A little mystery goes a long way in my book, like Up in the Air. They movie does a great job of setting up George Clooney's character, and in the end the viewer gets to make the decision of where his character is going in the last scene. Even though I didn't like Martha Marcy May Marlene as much as I wanted to, I still say you should give it a watch. Elizabeth Olsen is really amazing, and John Hawkes KILLS it! That man needs an award soon. You may not feel any warm fuzzy feeling afterwards, but if this movie starts collecting awards next year you'll be happy to know the actors at least earned them.

And I know I didn't touch on Moonstruck at all, but do I really need to? Cher and Nicholas Cage? It's a masterpiece!

So it's Monday, and I'm dragging just a little... but a large cup of coffee, and knowing How I Met Your Mother will be on at 8 tonight are the biggest things helping me through this day right now. I hope everyone had an good weekend. I had the best Saturday afternoon with one of my besties. We drove up to Cincinnati in the morning and spent the whole day shopping in their Kenwood area. Their mall has an Anthropologie and it made me a little sad not be caught up in the holiday hoopla happening in their stores this time of year. But lots of shopping, eating, giggling, and drinking sparkling apple cider right from the bottle on our car ride home really made my weekend.

This particular outfit was from Friday though. Despite the strong winds it was particularly sunny and warm that day and it called for this flowy bright skirt. And I forget how comfy these boots so I'm trying to find a way to wear them more. They seem a little too "tough" for work. But I think with a more feminine outfit it seems to work.

So sip slowly on that hot beverage and we'll make it through the day my lovelies!

I can't seem to squeeze more than one movie into my week lately. Right now there hasn't been an overwhelming amount of movies I want to see anyways, but with Oscar season getting ready to swing into high gear I'll need to find more time soon! I finally saw The Ides of March this past Saturday. Compared to Crazy, Stupid Love and Drive, I thought this one would be the best out of the three Ryan Gosling movies I've seen lately. Sad to say I was left underwhelmed. Ryan (yes, we're on a first name basis) is an amazing actor. He really holds my attention on screen and I'm always wondering what's going on in his character's mind during their scenes. It's just the story just didn't wow me. There seemed to be more drama and twists happening in the trailer than in the movie itself and that was a let down. It has a great cast, and everyone is amazing in it, just a little unbelievable in its ending.

Before I sign off for the weekend I wanted to have a sappy moment with you guys. I really appreciate every single one you. I wore a hat this weekend folks; alert the media. I secretly think hats are awesome. They instantly add some interest to your look while (usually) hiding the fact your hair is not being cooperative that day. I just don't think I pull them off that well. I have this Faith Hill situation going on where my ears stick out like crazy and I think the hat accentuates that fact. But this slouchy mushroom style hat makes the hat lover in me happy. It kept my hair in check on a very windy Sunday plus keeping me warm so I didn't have to wear a jacket while I was out and about. Maybe I should get this hat in 5 more colors and be satisfied with that.

Sometimes the man in your life has the perfect item in their closet. In a moment of "nothing I own is speaking to me today" my eyes started wondering over to Aaron's selection of clothing. His black and gray buffalo check shirt had the exact amount of easiness I was going for. Of course I had to girl it up with a mustard belt and some killer lace up boots. It was the perfect outfit for a day out at the movies, and dinner with my family.

So can you guess what movie I saw last weekend??? If you can't tell from the images I saw Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas. What I'm sure you can tell is whose performance I liked the best from this movie. This is totally one of those you know it's going to be totally stupid and silly, but you're going to laugh and enjoy it anyways kind of movies. But I mean we all know the real reason went to see this movie: Neil Patrick Harris. Give me a singing, dancing, funny line delivering NPH any day of the week and I'm there. I could go on and on about his spot in the movie, but I don't want to ruin it for you or seem overly obsessed. Too late? But if you're in the mood for a totally ridiculous Christmas movie with stoner hi-jinx then this is the movie for you.

P.S. To be fair I also watched Lost in Translation this week too; and I have to say that movie is growing on me. I'm not a Sophia Coppola fan whatsoever but that movie sticks with me. I just watched it on Sunday, and I have a strange desire to watch it again.

Chop 'Em!

I'm thinking a hair change is in my future. I'm not ready to chop it off to my ears or anything but while I debate more layers or a color change I think I can at least change it up slightly with some bang action. I feel like a girls constant struggle in life with her hair is: to have bangs or not to have bangs. I've had the straight across and the swoopy bangs before, and battled the amount of likeness I had towards both. With the help of Pinterest I think I've found a length I like. What do you guys like, long or short bangs?

Sometimes a girl just needs lots of layers. That's how I felt about this outfit for Friday. This red sweater dress is a favorite of mine and it gets a lot of wear out of it during the fall and winter months. But to avoid comments like, "ummm didn't you just wear that last week?" from people who see me on a regular basis I have to mix it up. And voila, turning a dress into a skirt with this fair isle swearter works every time! It added some pattern and warmth all in one to my wardrobe workhorse. It was the perfect outfit for running errands with a cup of hot coco to keep me warm.

Of course taking pictures with me always leads to some silliness...I heart fall!

The amount of movies I've been seeing in a week has been particularly low lately. Busy weekends and short evenings have kept me away from my home away from home (the theatre) but hopefully I can get out for more soon. The past week I got out to see The Rum Diary. It was just OK. Johnny is always entertaining and fun but the plot kind of stalled out for me. Probably a case of too many interesting plot lines in the book not enough time for all of them to be flushed out in a 2 hour movie. Only watch if you've seen everything else out right now, but if you haven't I'd say you can easily pass on this movie. I was just happy to be sitting in a movie theatre on a Saturday so I was happy.

I already know I'll have at lease one movie to talk about next week because I have a movie date tomorrow. But you'll have to wait until next Friday to see what it was. I hope you guys have a great weekend and I'll see you back here on Monday!

Have a Little Laugh

This week I'm having a case of the blahs. You know what I mean? You're not crazy over the top about anything but you're not completely bummed about anything either...just right in the middle. Perhaps it's because the days are getting shorter or that I haven't spent much time with my busy honey this week. I really think it's because I'm trying to repress my exuberant Christmas spirit until at least the week of Thanksgiving so people don't think I'm crazy for listening to Christmas music on the way to work.

Something that is guarantee to put a smile on my face is this tumblr site: Suri's Burn Book. Simple in presentation but delightfully snarky in its content. Spoken from Suri's point of view her rants target the children of other Hollywood celebrities, their parents, and even takes jabs at her own mother and father(always referred to as Tom and Katie) for the ridiculous things they do. Her favorite celeb child to tear apart is Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Forever the tomboy to her girlie princess; Suri can't believe the outfits she wears or her lack of manners or decorum. And don't even get her started on her hatred of crocs!

If you're looking for a laugh on this Thursday spend 10 minutes on Suri's Burn Book, you won't be disappointed.

Her bag is made of newspaper and her shoes are camouflage SLIP-ONS. No one ever listens to me.

Grier Henchy (the little one with the surly disposition) and I were born on the exact same day at the exact same hospital. Now, five and a half years later, I’m me and she’s an angry ginger at a Smurfs premiere.
I’ve yet to make my red carpet debut, but I can guarantee you that when I do, I will not be wearing PANTS and FLATS.

Imm Living

I was recently introduced to the cutest line of products made by a company called Imm Living. Based out of Toronto, Imm Living has the most playful line of household and everyday objects. They strive to create products that are "ascetically and functionally appealing, but also loveable." How cute is that? Their ceramic made products are sold in shops all over the US, Canada, and Europe, as well as online. I was pleasantly surprised to see even some Lexington shops stocked some of their items. I will definitely be checking them out to see if any of the above items are being sold there.

I am totally in love with the whiteboard horse ribbons, the container ornaments that you can sew together with a special note inside, and the squirrel with one too many acorns to carry!

Our First Kitchen Table

I have not eaten at a kitchen table in a place I have lived since I moved out of my parents house 10 years ago. Where have I been eating dinner for the past decade or so? The couch of course! There was a brief period of time in one of my apartments where I had a card table with ONE folding chair in the space where a dining table should have lived. But I think I did more crafts on it than meals.

So now, after a few weeks looking on Craigslist, fifty bucks, and a great diy tutorial later, I am all grown up with my very own kitchen table. I felt like Aaron and I were having an official family dinner after our first meal at the table. Our small kitchen space called for just the perfect sized round pedestal table and the white walls begged for a bright pop of color in that corner. I'm still working on finding 2 more mismatched chairs and finishing decorating our apartment.

The table has an extra leaf to it but with only 2 of us dining most nights, it stays nice and small

It's kind of hard to tell but the pedestal was a dark hunter green

I say this last picture is only the "somewhat" after shot because the chairs aren't finished and neither is the styling of this space. But I was so happy to see it finally coming together that I had to share the progress. I need to take some better pictures when it's completely finished; you can't really see how vibrant the color of the table is because of the direct sunlight coming through the windows.

Not only do the changing leaves, crisp weather, and pumpkins have me in love with the fall, here in my hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, it also means horse racing season! Every October marks the 4 week period when some of the most beautiful, and fast, horses graze the farm land around Keeneland's race track. This Saturday I found myself decked out in my most fashionable fall color palete to bet on the ponies and take in the beauty of Lexington. This 70s inspired a-line skirt is the perfect piece for a fall outing. It really was the perfect day at the track because not only was I in great company for the day and the weather was absolutely gorgeous, but I also had an amazing winning ticket on one of the races!

Simplistic Happiness

Truly nothing makes me happier than watching "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" during the month of October. As soon as it gets close to Halloween, I'm searching the TV guide to find the exact day and time this special is airing. It seriously doesn't feel officially feel like fall or Halloween, for me, without watching this movie. This year it doesn't come on until the 28th (which is a little late for my taste) but luckily my friend has the movie on DVD and let me borrow it. All week I looked forward to when I could find a half hour to devote to Charlie Brown, Linus, Snoopy, Sally, and sincere pumpkin patches.

Even looking at these stills makes me smile. The red sky, orange pumpkins, a pile of leaves, trick-or-treating, a starry night over a full pumpkin patch...its all so comforting and beautiful. It reminds me of childhood and how it's okay to believe in something just a little bit magical, especially around the holidays.

So, I know this isn't my usual Friday Flick Pick post, but I am saying make some time for this childhood classic; you'll be glad that you did.

One of the highlights of my weekend was a trip out to the pumpkin patch. Aaron and I attempted to make our way through the huge corn maze at Kelley Farms but after going in circles for 20 minutes we gave up. But we still had lots of fun soaking up the rest of the fall activities like the hayride and finding the perfect pumpkins for carving. I love this time of year!

I was channeling my inner Terrence Malick al la Days of Heaven while out in the corn fields!

This craft wasinspired by my love of warm colorful mittens and my grandmother. When I was achild, she would knit mittens for me with a long chain to wear underneath myjacket so I wouldn’t lose them!

Thesefun and easy instructions will have your packages bundled up snugly while theywait to be opened this holiday season!

Materials
the gift you’re wrapping

wrapping paper

2-3 yards of yarn

decorative piece ofscrapbook paper

scissors

tape

pen

optional: ink pad, snowflake stamps, “to” and “from”stamps

Instructions
1. Wrapyour present in whatever wrapping paper you have chosen

2. Tomeasure the amount of yarn you will need for your yarn chain, tie the yarnaround the package in whatever way you want it to look at the end. I chose thecriss-cross way through the middle of the package

3. Triplethe amount of yarn it took to go around the gift; this is how much yarn it willtake to make the chain fit around the box

4. Tomake the chain, follow the instructions in the picture. A-E will show you howto start the first stitch in the chain. Continue to repeat steps a-e until youreach the end of the yarn

5. Stepsf-h will show you how to make a knot in the chain when you come to the end. Tryto use as much yarn as you can

6. Useyour decorative paper to cut out two mitten shapes. Punch two holes closest tothe edge opposite the thumb

7. Wrapyour gift the same way you did in step 2, this time using your yarn chain

8. Whenyou bring the two ends of your chain to the top of your gift, thread one mittenthrough each end

9. Tiethe ends into a knot or a bow

10. Usethe mittens as “to” and “from” tags. Have fun with your stamps or markers toadd
snowflakesto the mitten tags or your wrapping paper

Friday Flick Picks

My friend Lesalina gave a twitter review that summed up this movie quite well: "Seth Rogen is still hilarious, and cancer still sucks." I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie. I knew that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character gets cancer, I guess it didn't click with me that the movie was about someone dealing with cancer. I've never known anyone close to me who had a serious or terminal case of cancer; I can only imagine what seeing this movie for someone who has would feel like. I was a mess by the time the credits rolled! Tears down my face. But Seth Rogen really does make cancer funny. He's the perfect opposite of Levitt's character, and you're just waiting for his next hilarious moment when the camera is on him. Laugh through the tears people! So with only one movie to pick from this week I'm saying go see it, it's a great movie, just bring some Kleenex!

Warm weather is still trying to stick around here so this high waisted number was worn sans tights yesterday. Luckily, sunshine was the perfect accessory to this bright blue skirt. However, this bright piece needed some basic neutrals to complement it. I used to think mixing black and brown together just did not look right but I think I'm coming around to it. The 10-day forecast doesn't show colder weather coming back until next week so here's to living it up in the sun!

Dreaming of Collages

I finally hung some art on the walls of our house this weekend! I can't believe what a difference it makes. It really is starting to feel like people with some taste live here! It took me some time to find all the right frames to make up the collage above the couch in the living room, and finding the energy to do it took some time as well. But they're up there. The only thing left to do is find some fun artwork for the empty frames. Hello etsy wish list...

I have been looking forward to flick picks since Saturday, that’s how excited I am to tell you guys about Moneyball. I don’t know the last new movie I saw that I loved as much as this one. Now, I will say that if you’re not into sports then this movie isn’t going to do much for you. And I wouldn’t say I am a sport fanatic myself; but Aaron is, and his die hard love of baseball has worn off on me a little bit. Not to mention that the book it’s based off is one of his favorites. So I was already invested in this movie long before it got into theatres. But if you can look past the sports angle then just go see it for the acting. Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill are outstanding. I see nominations for both of them for this film. They play off each other so well; they just add the heart to this movie. It’s just this quiet, funny, simple story arc that I love to see in movies. It just proves you don’t need explosions, sex, and CGI to make a movie enjoyable. Sometimes you have a good story to tell.

I will say that I did watch another movie this week too, Network. When you watch old movies you learn where overly quoted classic lines come from; in this movie’s case it was, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.” Needless to say I didn’t like it much and I didn’t want to add its crazy poster into the mix of Moneyball’s.

Mix a colorful patterned skirt, pair it with spotted tights, a bit of sparkle, add in pieces of my favorite mustard yellow, and this is an outfit I was excited to wear all day. If you were to look at the notes app on my iphone you'd see a to do list a mile long. It's mostly for things I need to buy for the house, ideas for the blog, or a craft project I'd like to try. But if you're like me, you find you add more things than you cross off! Perhaps if I had one of these super cute note pads from boygirlparty I could get things done more efficiently.

Inspired by the outdoors, music, and joy (isnt' that sweet?) you can really get a sense of her humor and her love for all things nature and animals in her designs. Spiced Ruffles

It warms my little heart that October is here! I can put out my Halloween decorations, curl up in cozy sweaters, wear tights with every outfit, and sip all the warm drinks that I want! I had a half day on Friday so I took my Mary-Jane, velvet blazer wearing self, and stopped by Starbucks for my first pumpkin spice latte. And man it was good; I forget how tasty they are from season to season. Other highlights from my weekend included seeing Moneyball on Saturday and dinner with my family Sunday night.

With fall, I feel like everything has a fresh start. It's a chance to get started on projects you put off all summer because you were too busy enjoying the sunshine. Or to revamp and experiment with your wardrobe because fall is the season of many layers. I just feel like there's this spark in the air of something great happening this month.

A Cool World for Photos

Photography never ceases to amaze me. When I went to college to study photography I was very naive about what I thought a photo could be. I figured you picked up a camera, created a beautiful image, developed it, stuck it on a wall, and it was art. I never thought a photo could be anything more than that. As I got older, and the digital world started to evolve, blogs, google, online photo sharing websites, facebook, and pinterest, all became places where you could expose yourself to more. I am constantly learning and seeing new photoshop tricks, lighting techniques, and posing styles from all over the web.

And the ideas people have! I know it's both good and bad the amount of exposure the internet can have on a good idea. One person has an amazing idea or image, and within a day it has made its way around the internet and this one little thing has turned into a phenomenon. But it's inspiring to see how one person's story or image can encourage others to do the same. It's like collaboratively we are creating art together. That's how I feel about the images in this post. The technique or ideas used on these photographs have spread like wild fire and I love it!

Hey guys; how was everyone's weekend? Aaron's mom came to town for the weekend and we had so much hanging out and catching up to do. She was officially our first house guest so it was a mad scramble to get our house presentable. We're still in that awkward not completely decorated or unpacked phase. We also moved into a bigger place than our Indianapolis apartment so we have a lot of furniture buying in our future. Needless to say it was clean but sparse. But the great thing about moms is they're happier to see you than your place. It did get me thinking I need to kick my decorating into high gear. Here are some of the items on my wish list...

I'm a little short on the movie watching because I've been glued to all the new TV shows this week!(And my fantasy TV league is looking pretty good because there were some stinkers in there!) I caught Drive on Saturday afternoon and Dr. Strangelove last night.

The pick of the week is going to Drive. I'm sorry to say it's the better of two not so hot movies though. Ryan Gosling is a solid actor, I have really started to come around to him, and he really commits to his character, but the tone of the movie is all wrong. They overplay the little things, introduce characters and plot lines that are unnecessary, and try to make a hero out of someone who's not. And any movie with Albert Brooks I have a hard time watching because I can't stop picturing him as the voice of Nemo's dad!

And all I can say about Dr. Strangelove is it was too strange for me. It's sort of funny, sort of ridiculous, sort of boring. Only watch it if you're trying to check it off your "classic movies I must see" list.

Man, it feels good to have your friends back

How I Met Your Mother is, by far, my favorite show on TV. The only thing that makes my Mondays wonderful is the fact that when I get home I'm only 2 hours away from being in the company of 5 amazing friends, who also happen to be hilarious. I own all 5 seasons on DVD and am anxiously awaiting season 6's release this Tuesday. And when new episodes aren't airing there's a good chance I'm re-watching old episodes to keep me company. Heck, I even went as Robin Sparkles one year for Halloween! (One person knew who I was and it was a personal victory for me. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, watch this video, and have a good laugh).

I can't help feeling attached to the actors and the real lives they lead, and the lives of the characters they play on the show. I love that Jason Segel has a new Muppet movie coming out, that Alyson decided she was going to be in another American Pie movie, that Cobie looked amazing on the red carpet at the Emmy's this year, and for what ever reason agreed to be apart of the pointless "Emmy-tones," that Josh Radnor directed and starred in his first movie this summer, and that NPH...well is there anything that man can't pull off? Not to pick favorites of my best friends or anything but don't tell the others that he's my #1.

Needless to say the 1 hour season premiere of HIMYM had me very excited. In my opinion it's the best sitcom on TV and you need to be watching it. It will be LEGEN, wait for it, DARY!

How I Miss You

There are only a handful of things I miss from Indianapolis, my old city of residence. Don't confuse that with people though. There are many, many friends I think about and miss daily (and for those friends reading this, I want to come for a visit soon). But besides Midland Antiques and Cafe Patachou, the one thing I miss the most is Anthropologie. I realize every girl loves her Anthro, but when a new season comes around I find myself missing all the new and unique things that come through their doors. And Fall is hitting me hard! Look at all these beautiful outfits they've put together. All I can think about is structured jackets, boxy sweaters, patterned skirts, and funky shoes. Oh the agony!

Weekend Review

It was such a wonderful weekend here in Lexington. So wonderful in fact that I had time to document it all so I could share it with you guys. Friday evening started with craft night with one of my best friends to make curtains for the house. Saturday morning started out right with yummy banana nut muffins and cool weather outside perfect for sweater wearing. We also caught the movie Drive and the UK football game. I also got to work on finally unpacking all our books in our newly inherited bookcase, and catching my sweet puppy curled up in my newly hung curtains.

I just feel so refreshed and ready for this week. How about you guys; how was your weekend?

Please excuse the crazy layout. This is what happens when you watch movies late at night on a Thursday! Once again the eclectic movie taste of Sarah rides again! This week was tough for me because I liked
different parts of all of them. Days of Heaven was beautiful to watch, but I don't have a strong taste for Malick films so the plot did nothing for me. Funny Story was entertaining, but I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was 16 years old. Warrior was not at all what I wanted it to be. I thought it would be a gritter version of The Fighter, but sadly it was not. Bad story line and it ran a little long
for my taste. And Major League...what can I say about a typical 80's screwball comedy?

So you can see my dilemma for a pick. If I were pressed, I would have to pick It's Kind of a Funny Story. I laughed out loud in parts, and I could see a little of myself in these 16-year-olds that aren't sure how to deal with the pressure of school, parents, friends, and how to be cool around your crush; it can stress you out. And Zach Galifianakis is always good for a laugh. So enjoy a trip down memory lane of the years you're trying to forget.

A fantasy draft about TV shows: this is something I can get behind. Being a girlfriend to a sports enthusiast, I am well aware of how serious people take their fantasy sports teams. Not being one for sports I am, however, big on the entertainment world. So when Aaron emailed me a fantasy league plotting the success and demise of this years new fall TV shows, I was down!

The idea of the league, created by the website Grantland, is to stack your teams with the new series you judge to have the least chance of success. Awesome right? Because if you're like me, and when the Fall TV preview issue of Entertainment Weekly came out you instantly started judging the shows you hope never make it past the premier episode. So we both did our research, put on our judgey pants and started the draft.

Here are the 24 shows we used from Grantland's list (we only made one change; we subbed the Allen Gregory show for I Hate My Teenage Daughter) and our picks, 12 shows for each team. We won't know how the scoring will work until the end of this week, but the #1 spot are the ones we think won't make it too long and #12 we think will hang on and see the season to the end.

Check out the article and form a league of your own if you're into Fall TV as much as me. I'd love to hear which you guys think are winners and losers for the season.

(PS Don't think I'm a big hater of all the new shows this season; I'm really looking forward to a lot of them, and I hope they stick around for awhile, but I had to pick them!)

A few days ago I got together with a old friend, Rachel, to help her take some pictures of her little girl. As two past photography students, and her with loads of great portrait gear, we teamed up to have some fun with her almost one-year-old. So while everything was set up, I talked Rachel into taking a few snaps of me for an outfitting post.

I am totally loving the colored pants trend that is going on right now and these rusty red skinnies have gotten a lot of wear this summer and I can't wait to pair them with boots for fall. We've been having some weird temperature swings in Kentucky so layering with lighter pieces have done the trick when it goes form 50 to 70 degrees in the span of one afternoon!

Friday Flick Picks

We're trying something new since we've moved into our new house and that is no cable TV! For me, it's still pretty sad. HGTV, DIY network, Bravo, TLC, and The Hallmark channel (for my Golden Girls reruns), make great company while I cook dinner or on a lazy Saturday afternoon but, alas, they are no more. Right now I have the four networks, a channel that only shows the weather Doppler, and something called Cool
TV, which shows music videos and reruns of The City as far as I can tell. So our instant Netflix account will get a lot more use! Think of me while you watch your 100+ channels.

This week we watched The Art of the Steal and Double Indemnity. While I love a classic film, and Billy Wilder's work, I wasn't much for this movie. Just not "juicy" enough for me if you know what I mean. Its hard to appreciate murder mystery story lines in older movies because you've seen them played out time and time again (usually more complex and with more CGI). It's like you knew how it was going to end, you
just had to sit there and watch their brilliant ploy crumble down around them. And the lead Barbara Stanwyck just got on my nerves! But finding the poster really made me laugh! It's designed pretty well until - BAM! - floating head right in the middle of it all.

So the pick of the week is The Art of the Steal. It runs a little long in the end but overall, it's a great documentary about an amazing art collection and its owner, Dr. Albert Barnes. It touched the art student bone in me and I found it very nostalgic. Taking me back to when I was a student and what a wonderful environment it was to be surrounded by beautiful pieces of art and professors who wanted to keep it alive.

I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. I have a to do list a mile long of things I need to get for the house. What about you guys; what are your plans?

I got so much joy from shining the spotlight on one of my friend's pinterest boards that I thought I'd do it again. This time, it's on my sweet friend Mallory Hanson, a student of fashion retail management at the Art Institute of Indianapolis. She has a bright and spunky personality with amazing taste that allows her to carry off yhe newest trends or the most classic of looks with total ease. I swear she had the best collection of ballet flats and colorful scarves. Check out some of my favorite pins of hers; there's no question she has a love for fashion!

1. Where do you find all your great fashion pins?
I find a lot of my fashion pins from the fashion category on Pinterest. But more recently I have started to type in a designer name in the search box and pin away! A lot of my friends at school in the fashion retail management major have Pinterest accounts so we are all finding inspiration from each other's boards.

2. What do you love most about Pinterest and pinning?
I LOVE the organization of Pinterest and how I don't have to keep a notebook at home full of torn out pages from magazines. It's a great way to catalog inspiration for so many different things. Since joining I have re-created outfits, cooked recipes (normally not my thing), and have successfully done a few DIY projects. Pinterest is my ultimate source for inspiration and I'm completely addicted!!!

3. If your fashion board isn't your favorite to pin to, what's your 2nd favorite and why?
Besides fashion I find myself getting lost in the Home/Furniture category. There is everything from luxe Manhattan apartments to cozy beach side bungalows. I'm looking for inspiration to re-do my bedroom and have found so many different ideas!

Friday Flick Picks

It was a week for buddy movies. Just a couple of guys taking the leading roles in two very different comedies. I Love You Phillip Morris was pretty decent. Nothing really laugh out loud funny about it but enjoyable nontheless. I prefer Jim Carrey movies when there seems to be a cap on his "isms." Much to the delight of Aaron and his best friend I will pick Basketball as my pick of the week. Maybe it's because I've been watching too many of Netflix instant South Park episodes or that I found myself laughing hysterically at jokes I've heard a thousand times before. That's not because I've seen this movie that many times but because Aaron recites the lines from this movie about twice a week. So Trey and Matt: well done on getting my pick this week.

I hope you guys have a great Labor Day weekends. I am happy to report that this weekend is moving weekend!! So while it will be 90+ degrees out while I lug boxes in and out of a UHaul all day Saturday, I'll be happy to be in our new home. See you (hopefully) on Monday little apples!

Cut Loose Footloose

Earlier this week my friend Lesalina wrote a blog post that inspired me. Her words gave me the strength and the courage to speak out about the issues that are near and dear to us and to know that it's okay to be mad once in awhile.

And that issue, my friends, is remakes of totally awesome 80's movies!!! Lesalina's outrage was over the scheduled remake of the uber classic Dirty Dancing. I won't even begin to talk about how that upsets me. She spoke up eloquently enough for everyone; I encourage you to read her open letter to Kenny Ortega on her blog.

My rage is over the soon to be released movie Footloose. I will say I have calmed down quite a bit since my first viewing of the trailer. And what caused that calm is the realization that kids today seeing the new Footloose have no idea that an original exists. Or if they do, to them it's just a movie from the 80's and it's probably super cheesy and totally unrelateable. They're comparing this new version to Step Up 3D and High School Musical, or any other choreography-heavy movie these days. So while I get that they don't know a thing about the first one, they don't understand they are experiencing lazy movie making! I mean it's exactly the same! They couldn't even find a way to take the old storyline and make it more realistic for today's
generation. If you've seen the 1984 verison as many times as I have, you've got the dialogue and memorable quotes down: "There ain't nothing to do with me daddy. This is as good as it gets." And watching the new trailer, you can tell they've ripped the dialogue straight out of the original too!
To further prove my point that the kids today would be better off watching the 80's classic than Craig Brewer's version, and having a good laugh at a the hairstyles, wardrobe, and a 19-year-old Sarah Jessica Parker, I have made a side-by-side comparison of the old and new trailers. See for yourself that anyone born in the 80's will know you are not missing anything if you pass on the new movie, and kids born in the 90's should show some respect and know that we did better in 1984!

I rest my case.

Lands' End Canvas

Have you guys checked out Lands' End Canvas? The new line of Lands' End clothing brand launched almost 2 years ago; it features trendier men's and women's clothing than the brand's usual offerings. A dress of theirs was featured in Real Simple's September issue and it had me immediately jumping on their website to check out the rest of their Fall line. These are the kind of clothes I can see myself wearing to work or on a trip to the pumpkin patch!

All in a days work

At the beginning of the Summer I assisted a very talented stylist and friend, Kelly Kruthaupt, for a set of commercials filmed at Hoosier Park Casino. Kelly and I styled the wardrobe of all the main characters in the ads and we had ourselfs two days of crazy fun. I think I dreamed of beeping and blinking slot machines for days after we finished. Yours truly even found a way into one of the spots. You can catch me at the 15 second mark; I'm just behind Willy's right shoulder. Next stop: Hollywood!

Look at me, I got 4 movies in this week! Some new, some old, it was a good mix this week. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked Friends With Benefits. I figured since No Strings Attached turned out to such a bust, that FWB wouldn't be much better. I think it all came down to which stars had better comedic chops; and Justin and Mila brought it! Wittier dialogue, a little more believable story line, and a MUCH better supporting cast, made it a good rom-com you can watch with your boyfriend that will keep his eye rolling kept to a minimum. Despite my enjoyment for Benefits my pick for the week is going to be Psycho. Hailed as Hitchcock's best film, I had always been skeptical of watching this movie for fear it was too scary. Oh my goodness how wrong I was. Compared to horror movies of today watching Psycho was like watching a B horror movie. It almost campy and laughable, and the ending is a bit out there. I just really loved the 60's costumes, the dark house on the hill, and the infamous soundtrack. Have a great weekend guys!

Side note: Watching this movie also desperately made me want a slice of cheesecake. It reminded me of an episode of the Golden Girls where after watching Psycho they were all too scared to go to sleep, and they end up staying up all night gossiping and eating their signature dessert. Typical Blanche, Rose, and Dorthy!

Awhile ago a sweet photographer named Chloe Jennings started following me on twitter. After seeing that she was an Indiana photographer I really wanted to do a post on her. Well then my friend Sheena got married, and she was the photographer of her wedding! At the time I didn't put two and two together but now that I've figured it out, I really had to share her work with you guys.

After reading her bio and looking through her portfolio you can feel her connection with her clients and the life they have on their own. Currently a student at ISU, she's a smart cookie to start building her buisness and skills now so she can have a plethora of opportunities when she graduates. Hey guys! How was everyone's weekend? I have to say mine felt long and what a wonderful feeling that is. We knew that Sunday would be a Cincinnati day, going to Ikea to find some furniture for the new house
and a stop at Urban Outfitters for good measure, so that left our Saturday to be lazy and carefree. The mornings around here have started to get cooler, hence the sleeves, but by lunchtime I was glad to be in shorts and a tee. Summer still has a few good weeks left in her!

So I got a little off track with my movie watching this week. But it's not my fault! If you're a diligent LYA reader than you know that I am seriously addicted to watching the TV series The Shield. The last 2 seasons of the show have gotten pretty intense so instead of movie watching I was Shield watching.

Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead was recommended to me by a friend, and who doesn't love My Cousin Vinny? I mean it's on TV like once a week; I know this because my dad feels compelled to inform Aaron (my law

school graduate boyfriend) every time it's on. I think I'm going to answer my own question and say I love My Cousin Vinny the most for my pick this week. It has comedy, romance, and courtroom drama. It's a masterpiece. I will say if you're looking for a good food/diet documentary with a happy ending you should check out Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. It's pretty motivating.

It's Official!

We've found a place to live! If all goes according to plan we hope to be moved in by the first week of September. Since leaving my college dorm room I have spent the past 7 years living in apartments; I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be living in a house! We're not quite ready to own a house, but renting one suits us just fine. Besides, who wants to mow the yard and fix leaky faucets when you have a landlord to do those things? Last night, after dropping off the final paperwork and picking up the keys on the drive home, I let my mind wander to all the decorating I want to do...

A fun light fixture over the dining room table, perhaps? Keeping our white bathroom clean and stylish. Setting up a desk near the window in the second bedroom, and some sort of chalkboard element in the kitchen.

So it's no secret we're all obsessed with Pinterest by now. It's that one place I can go to everyday that inspries all areas of my life. One person I follow, that just happens to be my friend also, who has me clicking 'repin' all the time is Mary Glassmeyer. Mary and I worked together at Anthropologie and her nickname is Christmas Mary. Which not only describes her love of Christmas 365 days a year but perfectly sums up her personality too: full of good spirit, fun, and sparkle.

So I did a little round up of my favorite pins of hers, and asked a few questions about her love of pinterest.

What category or board do you pin to the most and why?
That would be a tie between my board "fashion" and my other board "love, love, love." My fashion board has lots of different outfitting ideas. I was once told that I have Jackie O style with a twist (I like to think that twist is glitter!) I pin to my fashion board anything to give me inspiration for my wardrobe. My board "love, love, love" holds all pins that I look at and in the words of the great Rachel Zoe, say to myself, "I DIE!" These two boards give me realistic inspiration for me every day, and make my heart jump a little!
Why do you love Pinterest?
Why do I love Pinterest or why am I addicted to it? I believe the answer is the same! It is the most inspiring, uplifting, happiest, and most rewarding app I have ever come across. How great is it that something so small such as a pin of Anna Wintour, a vintage dress, a chocolate peanut butter brownie, vintage Pyrex, and a bunch of peonies can absolutely make my day. Pinterest is my place to be creative and wonder off to a far away land of fashion, food, and interior design!
